IOI-Active Citizens Programme

IOI-Active Citizens Programme

The IOI-Active Citizens Programme is a collaborative project with the British Council that forms part of a global effort to create positive impacts within local communities. The programme kicked off with a workshop aimed at raising awareness among our employees to take a more active and participative role in the community.

Waste to Treasure Campaign

Under this programme, recycling bins were installed in our developments to encourage recycling among the local community. IOIPG has partnered NGOs, universities and social enterprises over the years to educate and instill this habit. Sharing sessions and workshops have been organized to educate the community on how to identify recyclables, segregate waste at the source and even upcycle fruit waste to cleaning enzymes.

This year, we collaborated with Cenviro, E-Idaman, SWM Environment, Generasi Peduli Sampah and Arus Oil to organise recycling drives and upcycling workshops at our developments in the northern, central and southern regions of Malaysia from 15 April to 27 May 2023.

We collected a total of 1,967KG of recyclable materials comprising aluminium, cardboards, e-wastes, papers, plastics, steel and 154.2KG of used cooking oil to be converted to biodiesel. Apart from the recycling drive, upcycling activities such as candle making from used cooking oil and moulding/doodling on crushed-glass were also conducted during the event.

IOI-Active Citizens: Clean Up

In conjunction with National Environment Day in October 2020, the IOI-Active Citizens: Clean Up 2020 was launched to encourage employees to clean up their digital clutter. In addition, we encouraged both our employees and our communities to clean up their physical clutter. This was in line with efforts to reduce carbon footprint and to minimise single-use plastic pollution.

IOIPG partnered Reef Check Malaysia to deliver a webinar and organise a Clean Up Challenge for the employees and the general public. Raising awareness on marine debris and plastic pollution, as well as the importance of protecting coral reefs and marine ecosystem, the event also included challenges to encourage participants to actively contribute to the cause in their daily lives.
