Puchong to welcome first internationally branded five-star hotel in 2030
SUBANG JAYA: Puchong is set to get its first internationally branded five-star hotel after IOI Properties Group Bhd partnered with Marriott International to develop The Westin Puchong as part of its flagship IOI Rio City project in Bandar Puteri Puchong.
The 324-room hotel, expected to involve an investment of about RM500 million, is scheduled to open by the end of June 2030 under a hotel operations and management agreement signed by the two companies today.
IOI Properties chief operating officer for property investment Chris Chong said The Westin Puchong would be a milestone for Bandar Puteri Puchong and the wider township, strengthening its hospitality, business and events ecosystem.
"The Westin Puchong will mark the arrival of the first internationally branded five-star hotel in Puchong," he said at the signing ceremony.
The hotel will anchor IOI Rio City, a RM12 billion mixed-use development planned over 12 years on a 40.47-hectare site. The project represents the final phase of the 27-year-old Bandar Puteri Puchong township and aims to establish the area as an international business hub.
The first phase of IOI Mall Rio alone will require an investment of more than RM1 billion.
Chong said IOI Properties currently owns and operates nine hotels with a combined 3,075 rooms.
The addition of The Westin Puchong, together with the 360-room W Singapore Marina View and other projects in the pipeline, is expected to increase the group's room inventory by 907 rooms by 2030.
By then, IOI Properties' hospitality portfolio is projected to comprise 3,982 rooms across Malaysia, Singapore and China, supporting its strategy to expand recurring income.
Marriott International vice-president of hotel development for Asia Pacific excluding China, Andree Susilo, said the project builds on the long-standing partnership between the two companies.
"Building on our successful collaboration of nine operating properties and another in the pipeline, we are proud to introduce The Westin Puchong and bring its globally recognised well-being philosophy to one of Malaysia's fastest-growing commercial corridors," he said.
The hotel is expected to create about 220 jobs when it opens and will cater to both business and leisure travellers.
The IOI Rio City master plan includes IOI Mall Rio, a 5½-storey retail mall with more than one million sq ft of net lettable area, and a standalone 30-storey Grade A office tower.
The development is served by the Perindustrian Puchong and Bandar Puteri LRT stations. Since 2016, IOI Properties has invested more than RM90 million in infrastructure upgrades, including flyovers, underpasses, pedestrian bridges and improved walkways.
Designed around a "15-minute accessibility" concept, IOI Rio City will also feature cycling paths, landscaped pedestrian networks, covered walkways and direct links to public transport.
